Family Learning
D.I.C.E is experienced in providing creative learning expereinces that support famalies to engage in postivive activity that inadvertantly teaches and faciliates bonding, acceptence, respect and trust.
D.I.C.E specialises in providing creative learning experiences that support famlaies of disabled children and young people especially with severe, profound and complex disabilities including autism.
Our arts forms and opportunities include:
We intend to offer ideas that families can re-create at home with little or no expense through the use of play props that they are likely to have already, natural materials or easily available cheap supermarket items. We will show families how to use a child centred approach and to follow the children’s interests in developing play and activities; we are also able to support the development of themes should this arise e.g jungle, seaside.
We are able to adapt the activities to cater for intellectual, physical, sensory, communication and behavioural needs. We are creative facilitators and through using accessible approaches we enable the participation of children with a range of diverse needs and experiences including those described as ‘hard to reach’ e.g people with autism, severe learning disability and profound and multiple learning disabilities.
We are able to use multi sensory methods that promote active choice and decision making and participation. We promote childcentred approaches based on the observation of the child’s interests.
We support families to experience shared understanding through opportunities that support esteem, learning and play and promote bonding. We will support all of the family including parents and non disabled siblings to engage and share experiences with each other. While we willoffer a variety of fun experiences the underlying theme will be to foster the families’ confidence and creativity in being together.
The structure of the activities will be twofold; to facilitate an activity that creates a shared play based learning experience, and through involving the families in the development of the theme, to support them to sustain and develop their creative play after the event.
