Martin (DICE) has jointly created resources to promote the work of the Champion for disabled children and young people – Birmingham.
Martin has also worked with the Champion to facilitate and deliver consultation sessions with disabled children and young people around Short Breaks, and the inclusion of disabled children and young people views in the strategic plans for Birmingham Local Authority.
The quality of work supplied by Martin is of a consistent and high quality. Martin works in partnership to ensure that all key objectives and outcomes of the work is achieved in a timely fashion. This set of courses prepare and enhance the skills of professionals working with disabled children and young people. The set of courses  activate the social model of disability and provide professionals with a reflective space to build and enhance skills in understanding and promoting disbaled childrens rights. The courses support responsive child-centred practice through Disability Equality, Inclusion, Anti Oppressive Practice, Every Child Matters, Disabilty Discrimination Act adn Safeguarding Disabled Children.
 

Safeguarding Disabled Children and Young People

Safeguarding Disabled Children and Young People
This course shall enable participants to explore and understand child protection and risk in relation to safeguarding disabled children and young people within their settings.
Objectives:
  1.  Develop awareness of indicators of abuse and vulnerabilities of disabled children and young people
  2.  Explore effects of abuse on disabled children and young people, highlighting issues of communication and intimate care
  3.  Explore methods and procedures of safeguarding and supporting disabled children within abusive situations
  4.  Develop participant’s awareness of your role and responsibility in relation to safeguarding disabled children and young people

Disability Equality & Inclusive Play

Disability Equality for frontline workers (L2 & L3)
Delivered from the social model of disability perspective, this course will enable participants to explore disability issues including law and policy, language and etiquette through a series of practical exercises. This course aims to raise awareness in order to work positively with disabled people. The course is available for practitioners working with disabled children, young people.Filled with practical smart tips and ideas, this inclusion training course provides participants with the opportunity to explore and discuss practical issues and innovative approaches to enable the inclusion of disabled children and young people. 
 
Objectives:
  1.  Understand the medical and social model of disability
  2.  Explore issues, barriers and discrimination that children, young disabled people and adults face and how you can respond to the needs and issues of disabled people
  3.  Introduce appropriate language and etiquette to be used with children, disabled young people and adults
  4.  Enable participants to understand issues that families of disabled children/disabled parents face
  5.  Explore myths, rights and legislation that supports the achievement and participation of disabled children and young people within society 
  6.  Understand and explore legislation that exists to protect the rights of disabled children, young people and adults 
  1.  Introduce concepts of inclusion philosophy
  2.  Support participants to understand barriers to play, leisure and education
  3.  Understand and support children and young people’s learning’s styles and enable differentiation
  4.  Understand and explore the importance of play and consider the effects of play deprivation on learning and quality of life

Disability Equality and Inclusive Practice for Seniour Managers

Disability Equality and Inclusive Play for Senior Practitioners and Managers (L4)
Delivered from the social model of disability perspective, this course will enable participants to ensure positive responses to disabled children and young people through a series of practical exercises, think tanks and action planning. This course aims to equip managers and enable them to improve service responses to disabled children and young people.
Objectives:
  1.  Enable participants to ensure a positive acceptance and valuing of disabled children and young people within settings
  2.  Enable participants to provide effective support to families of disabled children
  3.  Understand and implement law and policy in meeting the needs of disabled children and young people
  4.  Enable participants to structure inclusive services for disabled children and young people

Ensuring Disabled Children's Rights - disability law and policy

This training supports participants with understanding, analysing and implementing children’s rights policy and law pertaining to disability within their settings. Participants will explore the impact of the initiatives, think tank and action plan ideas and development areas to implement responsive support and services to people.

Objectives:

• Introduce participants to the government agendas, law and policy pertaining to disabled children and young people

• Enable participants to explore core objectives of relevant policy and how they relate to your work with disabled children and young people

• Enable participants to explore and analyze core trends of delivery and how these will impact on your work with children and young people

• Support participants to develop and evidence outcomes

Anti - Oppressive Practice
 
This course shall introduce participants to understand and analyse key issues in supporting people who are discriminated against and oppressed within society using a positive and affirming approach.  
Objectives:
  1.  Explore and analyse the nature of discrimination and oppression towards people particularly within Race, Disability, Sexuality & Gender
  2.  Explore personal, cultural and structural barriers to enabling anti – oppressive practice.
  3.  Introduce key legislation
  4.  Consider the effects of oppression and discrimination on individuals
  5.  Develop practice in supporting people who are oppressed to achieve a positive self identity
